Get To Know Me My name is Sola Awe and I am so happy you found this page. I am a licensed hair coach and have been a natural hair enthusiast since 2011 after I decided to transition my oldest daughter to natural hair. I have two daughters who are both natural and lovers of natural hair. My husband is also an advocate in his own way. I have a presence on social media as DiscoveringNatural that is dedicated to helping people be comfortable with their natural hair and learn how to easily care for it.  As a child, natural hair was not embraced and when I became an adult, I struggled with understanding my hair. When my oldest daughter was 4, I struggled with caring for her hair and did not have any resource to help me out, so I decided to relax her hair. After a friend invited me a natural hair event in Houston, Texas, where I reside, I knew I have found a new passion. The next day, we started my daughter's transition to natural and I followed afterwards with mine. When I discovered a

I Have Lupus and Hair Loss, What Can I Do

It is important to let your doctor know about the hair loss. It is possible for them to modify your medication accordingly. Do you have scarring from the lupus? If you have scarring in your scalp, it is possible that hair may not grow back without surgical intervention. Some people’s hair grows back once they stop taking certain medications. Here are some things you could try: 1. Try  finger detangling to help reduce hair loss caused by combs. 2. Reduce using heat 3. Try doing styles that will keep your hair protected, so that you always have your hands in your hair. 4. Use products that are not harsh  The goal here will be to keep your hair healthy and maintain the integrity of your hair

Why Are The Ends of My Hair Breaking?

Image
When your ends are breaking, it could be an indicator that it is time to trim your ends. If you have not done so already. If you have done so lately, you might want to try changing the way you moisturize your hair. After adding your moisturizer, put some hair butter on the ends in the hair. When you style your hair, tuck in the ends of your hair to keep it protected. You can do a protein treatment to strengthen your hair but please do it only once a month.

Why Is My Hair Thinning In One Area

Image
If the thin hair has always been thin, it could be the nature of your hair follicles where you have that fewer number in that area versus other parts of your hair. The only way to know the viability of your hair follicles is to see a trichologist. If a trichologist says they are viable, he or she can suggest treatments. You could also try massaging with growth oils. If that area is where you pulled hair from the most, the follicles could be damaged but only a trichologist can test that area.
