DiscoveringNatural Hair Coaching

Get To Know Me

My name is Sola Awe and I am so happy you found this page. I am a licensed hair coach and have been a natural hair enthusiast since 2011 after I decided to transition my oldest daughter to natural hair. I have two daughters who are both natural and lovers of natural hair. My husband is also an advocate in his own way. I have a presence on social media as DiscoveringNatural that is dedicated to helping people be comfortable with their natural hair and learn how to easily care for it.

As a child, natural hair was not embraced and when I became an adult, I struggled with understanding my hair. When my oldest daughter was 4, I struggled with caring for her hair and did not have any resource to help me out, so I decided to relax her hair. After a friend invited me a natural hair event in Houston, Texas, where I reside, I knew I have found a new passion. The next day, we started my daughter's transition to natural and I followed afterwards with mine. When I discovered a lot of people especially mothers struggle with hair related issues I did, I decided to create my blog and other social media platforms to help them out. I strive to continue to help everyone learn to love and embrace their natural hair and not ever struggle with issues without knowing they have a helping hand; a hair coach to assist them.

    2. Thank you so much for this.
Trust you are ounf really well, first of all, kudos to transitioning both you and yiur girls hair back to the way God made all of you to be.
You see, my story goes way back, I had natural since since I was little and I never knew how to style it,. My mom relaxed my hair when I was 12, saying that I had stunted growth and this was the only way for my hair to start growing well, she had already relaxed hers since her University days, although I was hooked up on the plan something in me was still telling me that I might regret the decision I was abou to make . And truly, I did, relaxing my hair at 12, really young was a big mistake, I only decided to go natural because I saw this girl on a TV show, who was experiencing the same thing I was, she had 3b/3c hair and when it was time for picture day, her mom will make her relax her hair, she told her mom how she loved being her and how relaxing her lots made her feel like she was losing a part of her!. At that point, I felt stupid, I decided to natural when I was 13. And I've been looking for how to do my hair once I'm fully natural, it took me that whole 1 year to find a woman on YouTube with 4c hair sitting at tail bone length and you ofcourse! I was so relieved the struggle was and still is real! I'm 9 months into transitioning back to natural, I should be more comfortable with my natural hair in the next 3 months, but then I realised that my hair was experiencing breakage, breakage up to the extent that if I shampoo, immediately I touch my hair, if I remove my hands from it, I see hair on my fingers, anything I did, was resulting to breakage and I cried, I knew it would t be easy and I knew the situation I had landed myself in. I saw how to handle excessive shedding with green tea and excessive breakage with protein treatments. Knowing fully well that I'm stillbtransitioning and my hair will be prone to breakage considering my situation, I decided to wait Ron God and do the much I can!. People like you need to be rewa4ded, thankyou!. I know if I'm consistent, gentle with my hair and speak good affirmations about my hair aloud and to myself I'll see change.
I don't know ow if there's a way you can help me
! But this is my current situation
