Can Combing Your Hair Cause Split Ends?
Lack of moisture is a major culprit of dry hair which can lead to split ends. You can cause MECHANICAL DAMAGE to your hair when using combs the wrong way on your hair. When we run a comb or brush through our hair, our strands bend, twist and stretch, causing strain on the hair fiber.
If you comb natural hair while it is dry and not moisturized, this can break the “bonding glue” between each layer of the cuticle, causing the layers to separate from one another, known as de-cementation, and lift away. This is what causes split ends for some people.
