Wash Day with African Naturalistas | Wash Day Diary

Image
Today, I decided to start testing the African Naturalistas products that was sent to me. I am a weekly blogger for the African Naturalistas blog, so it was wonderful to be able to test out their products on my hair.  Since this is a new product line, I tested the pH levels so that I can have an idea of how my hair will react... To learn how pH affects here, visit this CurlyNikki blog post.   I started off by deep conditioning my tangled up hair with the African Naturalistas Deep Conditioner Mayonnaise (pH 5). My hair felt strong and after rinsing it had a soft feeling to it. After applying the product to my hair, I put my hair into bantu knots and covered with a plastic bag for an hour and a half. Rinsed... Post wash Then I shampooed with the Black Moisturizing Natural Shampoo (pH 7) and followed up with a 5 mins conditioning with the Moisturising and Detangling Conditioner (pH 2). The shampoo was a bit strong for my hair and my hair fel...

Popping Curls | Wash Day Diary

Image
I always do a deep conditioning after I cleanse my hair, however, today, I decided do it before and see if I notice any difference. At this point, I did not. My hair felt as soft/conditioned as it did when I do it after cleansing. What I used: I applied SheaMoisture African Black Soap Purification Masque on my scalp and my hair. My scalp has been quite dry these colder days. Covered my hair with a plastic cap and my thick knitted cap. Let it on for 1 hour. Rinse. Cowashed with Eden Bodyworks Cleansing Cowash. and results.... soft hair... clean scalp... and curls pOpPiNg! Lately, my curls have been more defined. Hmm... the only change to my hair product is my DIY Flaxseed. Maybe that is it. After wash, I used my sample size Karen's Body Beautiful Leave in Conditioner (Sweet Ambrosia) that I got at a meetup . Twisted up my hair for stretch..

Twistout on Natural Hair using Flaxseed Gel

I'm sure you can tell that I have fallen in love with Flaxseed Gel! I decided to use it on my twistout. Watch below for some tips on how to get defined, shiny and soft twistout using this gel.

Natural Hair Bun with Flaxseed Gel

Image
I've never been a big fan of gels until I met Flaxseed gel . My hair loves it, and so do I. It mixes well with all my existing products, so that is a plus. To create this bun, I moisturized my hair with the Obia Natural Hair Care Curl Hydrating Spray . I got this when I went to the Nzuri Hair festival last December. After that, I applied some of my oil to my hair, and moisturized even further with the SheaMoisture Curl and Style Milk. Then, generously added some gel to the top of my hair and my ends to create amazing ringlets. Using a snappee hair tie , I pulled my hair into a low bun, similar to Big Sis's . Tied my hair down for 5 mins... and that was it! Here is my simple Flaxseed gel recipe:

Flaxseed and Flexirods : Wash Day Dairy

Image
It's really cold outside and the last thing I wanted to do was to wash my hair. However, I needed to get a fresh look since my Wash and Go using my DIY flaxseed gel had run its course. I started by washing my hair with Naturalicious Moroccan Rhassoul 5-in-1 Clay Treatment  , which helped me skip Deep conditioning my hair since this product does it while cleansing my hair. While in the shower, after rinsing the clay off, I sectioned my hair into 4 chunky twists. I then covered my hair with a t-shirt for about 10 mins. On each section, I followed these steps: Massage scalp with my oil mix Apply SheaMoisture Yucca and Baobab Thickening and Growth Milk for moisture Use oil mix to seal in moisture Working in smaller sections within that big section, applied SheaMoisture JBCO Styling Lotion and flaxseed gel Twisted hair Once done twisting my entire hair, I used smaller flexirods (red) in front and larger flexirods (grey) in back to give more bouncy lo...

The Evolution of Wash and Go on Natural Hair: What I used

Image
Wash and Go - January 2015 I have always had a love-hate  relationship with Wash and Go styles. This type of style can be quite deceptive because by just reading the name, you think all you do is just wash your hair, and ..  yeah   go. Well, my friend, that is not so. The first time I dare to try this style was when I was transitioning. OK.... you can laugh now. Yeah, I know, wash and go works best when your hair is all natural because of the major change in texture. December 2011 Fast forward to a week after I big chopped, I attempted my wash and go. For this Wash and Go, I used Tresemme Natural Conditioner and Eco styler gel. The crunch was unforgiveable. But I loved it. Click to watch Video of this tutorial. November 2012 The next time I tried my wash and go was using Giovanni Direct Leave In conditioner and Eco styler gel. I loved it, my hair was not as crunchy. Click here to watch. December 2012  The same month, I a...
