How to Know Your Hair Type

You can determine your hair type by considering its texture and characteristics. Hair types are generally classified into four categories: straight, wavy, curly, and coily (or kinky). Here is other hair typing systems, click here.

Here's how to identify your hair type:

1. Straight Hair (Type 1):

   - Straight hair lies flat and lacks noticeable waves or curls.

   - It can be fine, medium, or coarse in texture.

2. Wavy Hair (Type 2);

   - Wavy hair has subtle S-shaped waves.

   - It can range from slightly wavy (2A) to more defined waves (2C).

3. Curly Hair (Type 3):

   - Curly hair forms well-defined curls and can have a variety of curl patterns.

   - Type 3A has loose curls, while Type 3C has tighter, more coiled curls.

4. Coily or Kinky Hair (Type 4):

   - Coily or kinky hair has tight, small curls or coils.

   - Type 4A has well-defined coils, Type 4B has a zig-zag pattern, and Type 4C has very tightly coiled hair.

To determine your hair type, observe your hair when it's in its natural state (avoid using any products) and consider both its curl pattern and texture. You can also seek the advice of a hairstylist who specializes in your hair type for a more accurate assessment. Keep in mind that it's common to have a mix of different curl patterns on your head.
