Product Review: Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Bought on Amazon.com

What is Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO)?
JBCO is a castor oil which is similar to other castor oils you get at the pharmacy. The difference is that JBCO is more efficient due to the content of the ash derived from the roasting of the castor beans.

Benefits of Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO)

  • Strengthen hair
  • Increase hair growth
  • Nourish and thicken hair
  • Cleanse toxins from scalp
  • Acts as a humectant by helping moisturize hair
  • Provides good shine

How it has helped me?
This product had a thicky consistency than other oils I have used. It had a gummy feeling to it.  I believe this helps it coat the hair better than the other oils. I used this oil by itself, and also mixed it with my other oils and my shea butter mix.  For me, this has helped thicken my edges as you can see from the pictures below. It has also helped thicken my 4c hair-ed daughter's hair and edges. Click here to see how to use it to grow your edges. So, it's thumbs up for Jamaican Black Castor Oil. The only downside is that I can only purchase this online.

  1. I really need to try this. My edges were thinning from wearing my satin scarf tied too tightly and from tying it around my hairline instead of lower on my head. I stopped wearing a scarf and switched to a bonnet and they stopped thinning but I haven't seen much improvement in them growing back or getting thicker so I will definitely try this. Which brand of JBCO do you use?
