Love That Sticks - KSBJ Radio - Vlog

Image
"All month long we’re talking about unconditional love. God’s love is unconditional and nothing can separate us from His love – now that’s the kind of LOVE THAT STICKS ! He loves us so much that He sent his son to die for us – so let’s share this good news with our community. 1 John 4:9-11 “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” Help us blanket the City of Houston with Love That Sticks !" ~ KSBJ Radio Watch as we put words to action. Find out where we stuck our love notes:

Texan Day FishTail Braids on Natural Hair

Image
If anyone told me a year ago that doing fishtail braids is so much easier than doing regular braids, I will say, " NA LIE!! ".  But to tell you the truth, it is. Here is why I believe so. Can you believe that while Big Sis was waiting for the school bus, which was so late , she learnt how to do a fishtail braid on Pinkie Pie of My Little Pony . For Lil Sis's style, we did a small cornrow, which is actually a bang, and then sectioned the rest of her hair into 4 parts. Twisted each part into two to three chunky twists and the fishtail braided everything into a side ponytail. Products Used: Moisturized with Rose water and Glycerin, SheaMoisture Curl and Style Milk and my DIY Peppermint Flaxseed Gel (recipe on Youtube channel). Trim Your Natural Hair for Healthy Hair

Image
A lot of times, we feel that by not trimming our natural hair, we keep our length and our hair stay long. This however is not always the case. If you are not taking good care of the ends of your hair, they could be damaged. One sign that you need a trim is when moisture is no longer being retained there. Click here for some tips on how to fix bushy ends. The above picture shows a "mirror-view" of what my hair looked like before I trimmed off about 1 - 2 inches. Yes, it seems like a lot, but I really needed a good trim. After straighten my hair with the Saran Wrap experiment , I could really see the ends. Now I understand why some naturals choose to straighten their hair to trim it. Here is the "non-mirror-view: of what my hair looks like after the trim. You can see below my ends are fuller and more healthy looking. To protect your ends, make sure to tuck them away after properly moisturizing and sealing your hair. More hair care tips on our YouTube

How to Saran Wrap Roller Set to Straighten Natural Hair

I shared a video by @prettywitty77 on my Facebook page, DiscoveringNatural, and got several requests for me to attempt it. I love a challenge. Prior to doing this style, I pre-poo my hair for 1 hour with a mixture of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (1/4 cup), Castor Oil (2 tbsp), Tea Tree Oil (4 drops).  Shampooed with Elasta QP Crème Conditioning Shampoo (old formula) Conditioned with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner Applied Black Tea Rinse Deep Condtioned with @SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Masque Normally, I will not do a tea rinse with a protein deep conditioner, because they kind of do similar things, but lately my hair has been shedding more than normal. Left this on of 30 mins. I did a light trim after this. Rinse Applied oil on my scalp Used SheaMoisture Curl and Style Milk to moisturize my hair. Twisted bantu knot my hair in 4 sections to stretch a little and dry for about 30 mins.     The Process: Results:

Big Sis: 3 Years Natural Hair Journey

Image
January 2015 marks 3 years since I cut off the relaxed ends from Big Sis's hair. Yes, she was texturized and then relaxed. Read more about that here .  I trimmed her hair over the week. She as in need of a good trim. I think cut off about an inch to and inch and a half. Her last trim was in August 2014. Before doing a wash, she wanted to do a length check and she was SHOCKED as to the length. I did notice her hair was really growing because my hands hurt when I did her hair. LOL! and her hair feels so strong. This year, we are doing an experiment with her hair. We are doing 3 weeks long protective styling. This is the second round and her scalp did so well the last time. Wash Day with Amla Powder - February 8th 2015

Image
I decided to do an Amla treatment on my hair, after reading CurlyNikki's post on it. I have used Amla in the past, but strayed away from it due to being introduced to other products. In the past, I usually make my amla oil this way: Click here to learn the benefits of Amla Powder on hair. However, today, I decided to just follow the package instructions: Take required quantity of Powder, Add little water, mix well and make a thick paste. I applied the Amla paste to my scalp, massaged my scalp, and then applied it to the length of my hair. I'm a brunette!!   I covered my hair with a plastic cap and waited 45 minutes. After that, I rinsed it thoroughly under the shower. Then cleaned my scalp and hair with the old formula Elasta QP Crème Conditioning Shampoo; another oldie of mine. When the residue of the Amla has been cleansed off my hair and the shampoo rinsed, I applied some Eden Bodyworks Cowash Conditioner on my hair to assist in soften it a lit
